Mysterious beauty from the interplay of light and shadow

The concept of this limited edition is “moonlight set off by shadow.” The subtle colour gradation of the Urushi drop as it morphs from black to silver creates a nebula effect, expressing the interplay of deep shadow and gleaming light in a very chic manner.

Monocircus, a Japanese creative duo famous for making accessories with 3D printing, created this one-of-a-kind bangle. A “ring of light,” it is inspired by the conceptual thinking of architect Sou Fujimoto on the nature of light. A circle which reflects light in the most exquisite ways, the bangle design has a complexity and intricacy unique to 3D printing.
Setting the watch against the bangle with its deep shadows imparts an added sparkle to your wrist. Experience the same pleasure as you would get from wearing a fine piece of jewellery.

Savour the serenity of moon-glazed sapphire

The gradated moon-glazed sapphire glass enables you to see the hands through its soft translucence while giving the sense of time passing luxuriously by.

Enjoy the play of light on the Urushi drop

The Urushi drop at 11 o’clock—a modern take on traditional Japanese gold lacquerware—is made by Urushi Sakamoto Co., Ltd., a lacquerware company with over a century of history. Each drop is handmade, resulting in a different sheen depending on how the lacquer coatings are applied.

Tranquility from three kinds of light

The moon-glazed sapphire glass, the Urushi drop, the single diamond—each of these elements glitters in its own way, but the three of them come into perfect balance on the bangle.

Tranquility from three kinds of light

We set a single diamond between the case and the Urushi drop. As well as acting as the 12 o’clock index, the diamond imparts a wonderful tension to the whole design.

Technology to turn light into energy

Eco-Drive is a CITIZEN core technology that generates energy even from dim light and stores the surplus on a power cell. It is environment friendly and keeps running for over six months on a single full charge even in the dark, eliminating the need to replace batteries.
Just as plants convert light into energy through the process of photosynthesis, so Eco-Drive drives the hands of our watches. That is one of the key concepts behind the Ambiluna collection.

COLLABORATION

Asao Sakamoto

“Tree lacquer is called ‘the diamond of the forest.’ We apply age-old techniques in a contemporary way to create timeless beauty.”

Asao Sakamoto

Urushi Sakamoto Co., Ltd. was founded in 1900 as a lacquer refinery and lacquerware wholesaler. In a strategic shift, third-generation president Asao Sakamoto took the company the strategy out of wholesale business and into original product manufacturing. The company’s creations, which go well beyond the traditional limits of lacquer work, have garnered a global reputation and won many honours including the Design Plus Award at International Frankfurter Messe as well as a place in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Top executives from world-famous manufacturers regularly visit the company’s headquarters to commission limited edition products. For Ambiluna, Urushi Sakamoto created a contemporary take on the traditional Urushi drop.
